Same Sex Wedding at The Fives Azul Beach Resort Playa del Carmen, Mexico - Hotel & Residences by Karisma. By Jorge Rodriguez Photography - Slideshow

Sometimes you meet someone and you just know that he’s the one person you’ve searching for all your life. It’s difficult to explain but when you know, you know.

Michael first met Christian while vacationing in South Florida. Michael lived in NYC and Christian was living Boca Raton. But as fate would have it, Michael’s flight had been cancelled and on a February 29th, the two decided to spend the day together. When they parted, they both knew something special had happened that day. They had to see each other again. For almost five months, the two travelled back and forth to spend time with one another until both decided to take a leap of faith. Christian relocated to NYC to live with Michael and Frenchie Harry. They wanted to give the new relationship a real try. It worked. In November, the couple decided to embark on an adventure and take a road trip across the country. Their objective: began a new life in Southern California. It didn’t take long for Michael to take the plunge and decided to propose.

For those who know Christian, they know he is creative, adventurous and loves surprises. And that’s just what Michael had prepared for this special moment. Michael pulled out all the stops. The journey began on a Friday afternoon. Christian was accompanied by his sister-in-law Lindsay on a scavenger hunt throughout Southern California. Each location included a sweet surprise and a phone call from a friend to convey Michael’s special messages as well as the clues to where to go next. Finally, at the oceanfront in Del Mar Beach, Christian’s brother, Derek, greeted him for the final clue. Derek presented Christian with a beautiful portrait of the couple and walked him to the bluffs where Michael was waiting. With the sunset just minutes away, it was the perfect moment to propose. In front of a large group of local observers, Michael popped the question just as a loud train passed by! But Christian heard the message loud and clear. And he said yes.

The couple decided they wanted to celebrate this new chapter in their lives in a gay destination wedding surrounded by the beauty of nature and the care of the people they love most.

After a couple of months of searching, the couple chose the gay-friendly hotel, the Azul Fives Hotel, by Karisma Beachfront Gazebo. The gorgeous hotel provided all the details for the day with the help of Venue Coordinator Claudy Chez Mesquita. Their Wedding Planner Sonia Estrada from www.gaydestinationweddings.com took care of guiding Mike and Chris along each step of the wedding. Sonia specializes in the LGBTQ community and making same-sex weddings a dreamy reality.

The ceremony and reception was held oceanfront but not in the sand. Guests accompanied the coupled dress in khaki, white and ivory pants with long-sleeved shirt – painting the day with pastel-color, summer ties. The ladies of the wedding party wore the same fabulous, light colors with a dash of pastel colors in their accessories.

Both Michael and Christian were walked down the aisle by their mothers, one at a time. The couple was accompanied by Kevin, Mike’s best man and Derek, Chris’ best man and brother. The ring bearer was beautiful Madison and Valeria, Chris’ small sister, was a part of the God’s Knot Ceremony.

The God’s Knot Ceremony is an Irish Tradition that symbolizes the commitment being made to each other and to God, who is embodied by the string in the middle, and the other two strings represent the couple.

With an air of lightness, love and kindness, the wedding party transmitted the couple’s love with songs and poems. The opening song was performed by one of Mike’s dearest friends, Nicole, who beautifully sang "Choose You" by Sarah Bareilles. The ceremony’s song was SongBird by Eva Cassidy. And the first dance was Remedy by Adele.

Lindsay, Christian’s sister in law, read the poem entitled “The Art of good Marriage”by Wildred Peter

Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens.

A good marriage must be created. In marriage the little things are the big things.

It is never being too old to hold hands.

It is remembering to say “I love you” at least once a day.

It is never going to sleep angry.

It is at no time taking the other for granted; the courtship should not end with the honeymoon, it should continue through the years.

It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.

It is standing together facing the world. It is forming a circle of love that gathers the whole family.

It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.

It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.

It is not looking for perfection in each other.

It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humour.

It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.

It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow old.

It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.

It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.

It is not only marrying the right partner; it is being the right partner.

Christine, one of his friends read a bible passage from Ecclesiates 4:9-12

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 New International Version (NIV)

9

Two are better than one,

because they have a good return for their labor:

10

If either of them falls down,

one can help the other up.

But pity anyone who falls

and has no one to help them up.

11

Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.

But how can one keep warm alone?

12

Though one may be overpowered,

two can defend themselves.

A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Gay Wedding Review:

Jorge and his team were absolutely fantastic for our wedding. They were prompt, very good at organizing and getting people where they needed to be, and did an amazing at capturing the moments. Our photos are the best wedding photos I've ever seen, and I'm not being prejudiced lol. These two are artists with an eye for the beauty of the moments. Our photos tell the story of our wedding day from beginning to end, and even if you weren't there, you could experience it all through their work. I would recommend them any day above and beyond.
